About Us
Richard Purnell is co-founder and president of Purnell Furniture Services, Inc.
Richard Purnell grew up in a furniture store. There was never a shortage of work for him growing up around the furniture business with his siblings in their family's Northern Virginia furniture store. When his dad lost the lease on their family store, Richard and his brother wanted to pitch in and help with family expenses. Still in high school, they used their dad's old truck and started doing deliveries after school. Local furniture retailers and interior designers gave them a chance, and were happy they did. Their level of customer service won them loyal clients. These clients formed the foundation of a new business that would grow and expand across 15 states.
One of the biggest obstacles for this fledgling enterprise was when Richard's older brother Elmer went off to college. The problem was Richard didn't have his driver's license yet. But, he went out and found an older student to drive the truck until he was old enough to get his license.
Today, Purnell provides a full range of services to furniture retailers,
manufacturers, and interior designers. The company now offers warehousing,
home delivery, and in-home warranty service.
